Industry Leaders & Investors Found a Global Meeting Point in Washington DC
Three days at the Ronald Reagan Building turned the world's most powerful city into the gateway to African markets.
Washington DC is a hub for American politics and history, home to all three branches of the federal government, the White House, the Supreme Court and the Capitol Building. In June 2018, industry leaders, stakeholders and government officials from across the globe travelled to the United States as the capital welcomed delegates from every sector.
US based company Velocity Xperiences (VX Global) organised the Africa Trade & Investment Global Summit (ATIGS) from June 24 to 26 at the Ronald Reagan Building, Washington DC's World Trade Center. The summit was endorsed by Power Africa, USAID, the Office for Trade Promotion, the East African Health Research Commission, OPIC and The State of Alabama International Division.
ATIGS focused on sixteen sectors: Infrastructure & Construction, Information Technology, Financial Services, Automotive, Consumer, Mining, Agriculture & Agribusiness, Tourism & Hospitality, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Education, Logistics & Transportation, Telecommunications & ICT, Power & Energy, Media & Broadcasting and Health.
The summit was designed to contribute to the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), Trade Africa, the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, the SDGs Agenda 2030 and African Union Agenda 2063 — enabling companies and global investors to access African markets through a single one-stop shop.
"I have investments in 21 African countries and despite the dwindling commodity prices and all the concerns being raised by the world, my investment appetite in Africa hasn't dwindled," said Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings.
“ATIGS is where companies from around the world with interest in expanding into Africa come to gain strategic knowledge and connect with competent authorities and businesses.”
